In A Circle - Brooklyn Lyceum Living Memory
An evening of Armenian and Persian Music
Living Memory...what is it? Does memory live within us? Do we live
in our memories? Memory of an event, our childhood, a song, a few lines
of poetry... How does it affect us? How does it shape who we are?
On
January 14th, these questions will be explored at the Brooklyn Lyceum
through music and visual art from Armenia and Persia. We would like to
present our collaborative projects with 2 great friends: Persian
kemanche master Kayhan Kalhor and an innovative visual artist from
Armenia, Kevork Mourad. Zulal, a wonderful Armenian vocal group opens
the concert. This is an evening not to be missed!

The Knights perform a new performance piece by Lisa Bielawa. “Chance Encounter”
will be a 30-minute site-specific musical work, co-conceived by
world-renowned soprano Susan Narucki and composer Lisa Bielawa, in which Susan and
12 instruments convene, one or several at a time, in and out of the
texture and context of public spaces. Susan will sing songs and arias
constructed of texts we have collected in transient public spaces,
thereby enacting the listener’s private (yet collective) experience of
the performance space itself. Each performance ‘venue’ will require a
re-mapping of the spatial and movement elements of the piece onto the
new location.
