Eric Jacobsen resides in Brooklyn, NY. He has a keen desire to work in a wide spectrum of musical styles and continues to look towards the future with his colleagues and fellow musicians for inspiration and collaboration.
Last season Mr. Jacobsen toured in Germany and Ireland with Dawn Upshaw. Their collaboration included works by Osvaldo Golijov. Mr. Jacobsen found the experience exhilierating, opening new doors and dimensions that continue to lead to beauty and excitement. Mr. Jacobsen had the pleasure of collaborating with the great virtuosos Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony in the music of Pablo de Sarasate at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. He has also led the orchestra Camerata Bern in music by Mark O'Connor with the composer as soloist.
Eric Jacobsen and his brother Colin, formed the orchestra known as The Knights in order to bring the intimacy and camaraderie of chamber music to the orchestral stage. The orchestra was honored to open the 2009 Dresden Musikfestspiele. '...the hard core conductor Eric Jacobsen' is what the Suddeutsche Zeitung wrote after a concert offering music by Shostakovich and Copland.
The Knights, conducted by Mr. Jacobsen, has released a SONY Classical album 'Jan Vogler and The Knights, Experience Live from New York ' featuring Shostakovich's first Cello Concerto and Waltzes arranged for the group along side of music by Jimi Hendrix. In 2010 (January in Europe and May in the USA) The Knights will release their second SONY album entitled 'New Worlds', featuring Copland's Appalachian Spring together with music of Ives, Dvorak, Golijov and Gaby Frank In addition, he can be heard playing on recordings with distinguished artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Bono, and Christina Courtin.
As an avid educator and collaborator with students, Mr. Jacobsen has conducted at New York University where he teaches cello and chamber music. He has also led joint concerts with students of the COS orchestra sitting with musicians from The Knights.
Mr. Jacobsen looks forward to touring in Germany next fall with The Knights and Jan Vogler performing Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Mr. Jacobsen has been a fellow at the American Academy of Conducing in Aspen with David Zinman.
